Sustainable Value Creation in Iceland

Iceland is known for living in harmony with nature, gifting diverse resources to its fellow world. The Icelandic people are one of the leaders in utilizing resources. The climate crisis is a global problem that every nation can contribute to finding a solution to. By harnessing natural resources, Iceland can be a pioneer in this regard and manifest itself as a global brand for decarbonization of various - CO2 intensive - industries. In this way, Iceland symbolizes the perfect balance between environmental awareness and progress. Our project stands as a blueprint for this outstanding approach. Iceland creates value for the world and in turn benefits from the positive effects.

"Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of generations to meet their own needs."

Method for the decarbonization
of the European cement industry

The project may provide a method for the decarbonization of the European cement industry and provide long-term supply opportunities for customers of EP Power Minerals in the cement and concrete industries. The cement industry is currently one of the biggest sources of carbon emissions: around 4 billion metric tons of cement are produced globally, around 180 million tons of which come from the European Union alone (2018). The main additive for cement is cement clinker. Clinker production in Europe leads to direct emissions of 813 kg CO2 per metric ton of clinker, or 840 kg CO2/t clinker including indirect emissions for electricity.

For comparison:

Driving around the Icelandic ring road three times emits about the same amount of CO2 as producing 1 metric ton of cement clinker (approx. 4100 km = 809.3 kg CO2).
